Guaidó's Chief Roberto Marrero Faces Charges

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó's chief of staff, Roberto Marrero, has been charged with instigating disobedience and conspiracy related to protests following a vote and the publication of election results. However, unlike President Nicolás Maduro, who adopted a confrontational style reminiscent of late leader Hugo Chávez, Marrero has shown himself to be a conciliatory figure. As a former diplomat in El Salvador during its civil war, Marrero has experience mediating conflicts and maintaining calm under pressure. He previously served as Venezuela's ambassador to Argentina from 1991-2002 and obtained a master's degree in International Relations from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. in 1981. If elected, Marrero promised to establish a transition period that would ensure the release of political prisoners, the return of exiles, and the repatriation of Venezuelans living abroad, many of whom have fled the country due to its economic and social crisis.
